Requirement for patients to choose the Mini-Gastric Bypass surgery ,if BMI of 35 or more (100 lb or more overweight )

Mini gastric bypass surgery  ( Loop gastric bypass )

The first time use of gastric bypass procedure in 1967, used a small bowel loop reconstruction instead of the Y construction and is common nowadays. Because is easier to create, this approach allowed the bile and pancreatic enzymes reach the small intestine into the esophagus, sometimes causing serious infections and ulcerations in the stomach or lower part of esophagus. If the blood in his stomach hurts, this corrosive fluid can cause serious consequences. Different type of  studies show a reconstruction of the cycle (Billroth II gastrojejunostomy) works in a secure manner if placed in a lower stomach, but could be a disaster when placed next to the esophagus. Thus, even thousands of loops are commonly used in general surgery such as ulcer surgery, gastric cancer and damage to the stomach, but the Bariatric Surgery abandoned the use of the construction in 1970, when it was found that the risk is not justified management of weight.

Mini-gastric bypass surgery , which uses the loop reconstruction, has been proposed as an alternative to Roux-en-Y procedure, and  due to its simple construction, It reduced the laparoscopic surgery challenge .

Many people in worldwide are overweight.According to the World Health Organization in the United States ,overweight or obesity alone is put at risk, millions of people having overweight related disease like hypertension, high cholesterol, cardiac attack, stroke, diabetes, cancer and many more problems.

Mini gastric bypass surgery or loop gastric bypass is a weight loss surgery that is fast, simple and helps in shed , who have unwanted excessive pounds . It is same as to other gastric bypass operations in this part of the stomach is stapled it is not used, and part of the small intestine is bypassed.

Despite the attractiveness of the loop gastric bypass surgery easier, according to the American Society for Bariatric surgery ,its dangerous procedure. In a very few bariatric surgeons perform this modified version of bariatric surgery seen as outdated and maintain the tradition Roux-en-Y, as the gold standard.

Mini gastric bypass combines two operations :
  • Collis gastroplasty - an extension of the esophagus by creating a tube of the upper abdomen - and

  • Billroth II gastrojejunostomy , which is to connect the small intestine to the stomach.

Basically, is a narrow, long-shaped bag and restored in the intestines of about 6 meters from the stomach without actual break in the small intestine. No food is emptied into the big, broken-off piece of the stomach or small intestine, and limiting caloric intake.

This type of surgical procedure takes about 30-60 minutes for completion and patients are discharged from the hospital within 24 hours after surgical procedure. Roux N-Y gastric bypass in the small intestine is completely separate from and reconnected to the stomach creating a Y-shaped bridge. By stapling the stomach a small pouch is created. The traditional gastric bypass surgery is considered more invasive as compare to the Mini Gastric Bypass. The circular pocket is stretched in round easily with a gradual increase in food intake in Mini Gastric Bypass. This procedure is less invasive than Roux N-Y, allowing rapid recovery and less expensive gastric bypass surgery. This procedure of gastric bypass loop is easily reversible. The long narrow pocket, unlike the pocket created in Roux N-Y rounder, more efficient reduces hunger. Patients  having feeling of fullness more rapidly.

Best candidate for Mini gastric bypass surgery

Minimum requirement for patients to choose the Mini-Gastric Bypass ,if a BMI of 35 or more (100 pounds or more overweight).

Average cost of Mini gastric bypass surgery

Mini-Gastric Bypass Cost in 2010, the Mini Gastric Bypass surgery an outpatient procedure costs approximately $ 9,500 and the cost of the Roux N-Y is about $ 25,000 - $ 30,000 on average.

Complications of Mini gastric bypass surgery

A major concern is the mini-gastric bypass procedure is the backward flow of bile into the esophagus. Bile irritate the esophagus and stomach, leading to severe ulceration. Constant reflux predispose patients to develop esophageal cancer.

Other complications are: severe anemia, bleeding, loss rivets in the stomach, severe malnutrition, blood clots, hyperglycemia, persistent nausea, vomiting, and gallstones, kidney stones, latus, food allergies (especially for dairy products), a hernia at the site Engraving, reflux, bowel obstruction in massive infection, intestines knotted and ulcerated.

Mini gastric bypass surgery is relatively new procedure compared to more widely accepted procedures for weight loss .Weight loss in short-term super-super overweight appears to be a success, but long term , will need more operations and time. As in  any type of surgery, the benefits weighed opposed the risks. ...... read more
